Social media ablaze over doctors’ jailing

The seven doctors jailed on Monday are now free.

They were released Wednesday morning by three Court of Appeal Jugdes Jamila Mohamed, Wanjiru Karanja and Hannah Okwengu in Nairobi.

Tuesday morning saw Facebook and Twitter go on fire following the imprisonment of seven doctors on Monday February 13.

The doctors, officials of the doctors’ union, KMDU, were jailed on the 71st day of the ongoing strike prompted by the government’s reluctance to honour a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed in 2013.

Among other things, the doctors want better pay and good health infrastructure to offer services.

Many people discussing the issue were supportive of the doctors’ grievances.
